About Mixografia: Mixografia was founded in 1968 by Luis and Lea Remba in Mexico City and is today one of the foremost print publishers based in the US. The family’s printmaking legacy began with Benito Remba, who opened a commercial printing business in 1949. The studio transitioned to fine art printmaking through a collaboration with artists in the late 1960s.
In 1973, a challenge by Rufino Tamayo led to the invention of Mixografia®'s printing technique, which enabled the creation of unique three-dimensional art prints with rich texture and fine surface details. This innovative process involves sculpting a model, which in turn is cast to produce a detailed printing plate. Custom handmade paper is then pressed into the plate under high pressure, producing prints with remarkable depth and color.
Relocating to Los Angeles in 1984, Mixografia has since worked with celebrated artists worldwide. Now led by Shaye Remba, the studio continues to push the boundaries of contemporary printmaking, fostering new collaborations
and artistic innovation.
