Quick Facts: St. Katharine Drexel is the second American born saint to be canonized. Katharine was raised by wealthy parents who cared for the poor and prayed daily. After watching her mother suffer from cancer, Katharine decided that she would spend her time help the poor living conditions of the Native Americans and the black community in Western United States. She opened the first mission boarding school in Santa Fe, New Mexico and lived her life working for the spiritual and physical wellbeing of African Americans and Native Americans
