Daniel John Martin figures as one of the most prominent violinists of the French and international Jazz scene. Born in Congleton, not far from Liverpool, his youth was marked by a long sojourn in Africa.
He was one of Didier Lockwood’s first students who stated that he stands amongst the top notch players of his generation.
He co-founded the 11tet de Violons Jazz, with which they toured and recorded together.
A long time later, he turned towards jazz-rock and fusion, and he has since been recognized as a leading figure in the « Parisian gypsy jazz” revival.
He is in the process of finalising a recording of his youth compositions alongside guitar hero Robben Ford, pianist Olivier Hutman, Henri Dorina on bass and Francis Arnaud on drums. They are accompanied by a string quartet led by Line Kruse. All the compositions and arrangements are signed by DJM. The record should be available in the spring of 2025.
Be it in one of his ensembles playing his compositions or alongside other great soloists, sharing his passion for jazz standards; you will enjoy a great moment of music!
“Daniel John Martin and his Gypsy Jazz Quartet delivered a masterclass and education in the genre – I’d hate to be an act that followed afterwards! Sublime doesn’t do it credit – travel if you must to catch this.” Jonathan Cuff London January ’23
“To describe DJM as a virtuoso performer is like calling Lionel Messi a half-decent footballer. It is all but impossible to convey to those who’ve yet to hear the Paris-based violinist at a gig just how good he is” Be Bop Spoken Here (Newcastle)
“A unique and charismatic performer and one of the most sought-after violinists of his generation!”
