Meet the host..
My name is Roxy B. Rocker.
I am 50 years old. I am a business owner who owns Embracing Wellness and Inspiring Disability . Embracing Wellness is a wellness company that provides therapeutic massage, manual lymphatic drainage plus coaching and other holistic care practices. My office is in West Concord. My license and training was approved in 2014/15 with Mass Rehab commission. I have been doing this great work for almost 10 years now .
Prior to being a massage therapist I started working in human services with my bachelors in sociology from Northern Arizona University. I tried multiple careers including Early Childhood in childcare centers . When that career became unsuccessful. I became interested in how to work with nonprofits and state government. I have worked in the disability sector since 2002- present . I was one of the original pilot hires from the Disability Program Navigators working with the state of Arizona and the Federal Government . We did systems change work and job development for clients with disabilities . I moved to Boston in 2011 where I was hired at the institute for community inclusion to work on the National Service Inclusion Project . This role was a privilege and a struggle at the same time . It was a great milestone to achieving that role . It was a struggle to keep up with the role and its responsibilities.
I am a person with a physical disability with hip and leg being shorten on the right side and cognitive learning disabilities . I have used the rehab services to navigate my life through disability services like job training, employment opportunities, independent living – getting my drivers license with adaptive drivers training , and now more recently home care services. I live in Boxborough with my boyfriend RJ. We want a home or a bigger town house so we can have a dog or two. Education on inclusion and disability has always been a part of life . So this is very exciting to be working with our community and others with shared experiences. Can’t wait to learn and grow together this year.
Ask me anything about Business and entrepreneurship if I don’t know I will research it . Being an entrepreneur is one of the best ways I have learned to manage my disabilities better! Why ; When you are the boss you have to learn to problem solve the challenges on your own. This journey has been the best confidence booster !
