Join Kat Jordan, MS, RD, LDN, CEDS-C, and Mary Elizabeth Akinaka, LPC-S, CEDS-C, for a breakfast and CE presentation: "Embracing Body Compassion: Reframing Movement in Eating Disorder Recovery"
Abstract:
In recent years, the concept of body compassion has emerged as a vital framework for supporting individuals with eating disorders, particularly in navigating their relationships with movement. This presentation explores how cultivating body compassion can foster a healthier mindset towards movement among clients. We will discuss the principles of body compassion, emphasizing self-acceptance, mindfulness, and emotional awareness, and how these can be integrated into therapeutic practices. Attendees will learn practical strategies for helping clients redefine their movement experiences, moving away from punitive exercise patterns towards more intuitive and joyful engagement with their bodies. By incorporating body compassion into treatment, practitioners can empower clients to build a more positive and nurturing relationship with movement, ultimately supporting their recovery journey.

1. Define Compassion and Body Compassion: Explain the concept of compassion and body compassion and the relevance in the context of eating disorders.
2. Explore the Impact of Movement: Discuss how different attitudes towards movement can affect individuals with eating disorders and their recovery.
3. Identify Therapeutic Strategies: Present practical interventions for integrating body compassion into practice to support clients in redefining their relationship with movement.
