Lecturer: Prof. Sarah Kettley (Professor of Material and Design Innovation at Edinburgh College of Art, The University of Edinburgh)
Title: Relational Design: qualities of the relation in ontological design
In this talk, Sarah Kettley will examine how the current ontological shift in design can be seen as part of a wider trend in the humanities, and how it can learn from decades of research and practice in therapeutic disciplines. How can design go beyond the observation that everything is connected, or even an acceptance of philosophies of co-becoming, to take an active position in making the world a better place? Join us for an enlightening discussion of the theories and methodologies Prof Kettley has found invaluable in designing for caring relations in materials practice and with marginalised communities.
